Explorer Program

The Cedartown Police Department has established a youth program for teens who may be interested in the career of law enforcement. This program educates the youth in the law enforcement field and gives them knowledge of the procedures and job duties law enforcement officers perform. The law enforcement explorer post accepts individuals between the ages of 14 and 20. They must attend school and maintain a "C" average. They also must have parental approval, be of good health, and have good moral habits with no arrest or conviction records for serious offenses. Once in the post, the individual must abide by the Explorer Post rules and regulations.

Explorers participate in numerous activities. Some of the activities include traffic and parking control, child identification programs, crime prevention programs, and other duties as approved by the Post Advisor and Chief of Police. Explorers interact with the community, police officers, and other youth their age. Every year the Explorer Post travels to Gatlinburg, TN to compete in the Winterfest conference. During this conference, explorers use their skills they have learned through training to compete with other explorers in competitions. They compete in competitions such as domestic violence, crime prevention, drug identification, traffic stops and accidents, and search and arrest. The Cedartown Explorer Group has won several awards in law enforcement competitions, and hope to continue to compete well in future Winterfest conferences.

The Cedartown Police Explorer Post would like to thank all of the community who has supported and contributed to the explorer program. With your help, the Cedartown Police Explorer Post has been a success in teaching youth who are interested in law enforcement.
